"Team Gut" was formed April 19 at the MarineParents Annual Conference in Washington, DC. It was then that Jesse, Joan, and Cpl. Gutierrez committed to participating in the MCM 10K to raise funds for Purple Heart Family Support. An active duty Marine with two completed deployments, Cpl. Gutierrez has witnessed the impact of casualties on Marine families.

Jesse and Joan are both retired educators living in Joliet, IL. Their son is scheduled to complete his active duty service (EAS) a week before the marathon. Joan serves as the Director of Online Support Services at MarineParents.com, Inc. Jesse is very supportive of the many hours she spends with her laptop daily. He also attends MarineParents functions including conferences and care package packing days. Both are hugely supportive of their Marine son and the Marine Corps in general. In addition to their Marine, Jesse and Joan are also parents to Dan, four cats, and a turtle. The cats – Champion, Darth, Sweetness, and Miss Twiggy – all sport camouflage collars.

The decision to participate in Team Marine Parents required a lot of thought. Jesse and Joan both sport replacement body parts. Joan had total hip replacement last year, and Jesse had his knee rebuilt and screws inserted in his tibia after a skiing accident a few years ago. Both have used the 10-K and support for our Purple Heart families as motivation. Jesse visits the fitness center daily to ensure his leg is up to the challenge. Joan used it as her motivation throughout rehab and continues strengthening her muscles. While Jesse plans to run, Joan will be limited to walking.

"Team Gut" respectfully requests and greatly appreciates your support.
