John Yorko (Marinedad532), a new Marine dad, is from Fort Wayne, Indiana. John and his college sweetheart Lenay (Momof5), have been married for 23 years. They have 5 children, daughters Anna and Aubrey, sons Matthew, Josh, and Lcpl. Sean.

Sean has just been assigned to his first duty station at Cherry Point after finishing a year at MCCES 29 Palms.

It has been a busy year for the Yorko family. In March, Sean announced that he would marry his sweetheart Alexandra on July 4 in Vegas. The whole family attended and had a great time, with the reception happening in September in Fort Wayne during Sean’s leave.

In April, John was poking around the MarineParents web site and discovered TeamMarineParents, and that they were putting together a team to run the Marine Corps Marathon. John, a lifelong on again, off again runner, decided that running the MCM as part of the team would be an excellent way to honor his son’s service to his county.

“I’m very proud of my son. He’s done what most of us wouldn’t have the guts to do – certainly not me. He’s my hero. When the training gets hard I think of how trivial my discomfort is compared to what he and other Marines do every day. This is the least I can do for him. This, along with many prayers for his safety.”

John is raising money for Purple Heart Family Support, and hopes to finish the MCM in less than 4:30.
